Sport
Boys’ High is a school for participators and the emphasis on the sports field is on playing the game for the joy if it, rather than winning at all costs. The value of respect on the sports field is emphasised and bad sportsmanship is not tolerated.
No teenage boy’s high school career is complete without some learning experience on the sports fields. Participation in all our disciplines is both formal and informal, competitive and fun. The school boasts superb facilities, including tournament-grade rugby and cricket fields as well as soccer pitches, tennis courts, squash courts, a fully equipped gym and a swimming pool. Our extremely successful hockey teams play on Astro fields at facilities nearby.
All internal competition takes place under the banner of our four Houses: Barnard, Buxton, Granton and Milton; whilst external competition happens locally, provincially and nationally.
Each year we achieve provincial representation in our various sporting disciplines. Since the opening of College in 1905, we have had no fewer than 59 Old Boys who have represented South Africa in a number of disciplines and our Old Boys continue to apply the values of sporting discipline and commitment that they learn at the school, around the world.
Boys’ High has an excellent record with regards to sporting achievements and we have produced many Springboks in all sporting codes. In the past 10 years, Boys’ High has made a major contribution with regards to the development of African sportsmen and many have achieved Provincial Colours as well as represented South Africa at the Olympics.
